Ho’oponopono

(Ancient Hawaiian Clearing Method)

I apologize.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

Perhaps you’ve heard the now-famous story about Dr. Hew Len, a clinical psychologist, transforming a mental institution for the criminally insane in Hawaii. The hospital was a dangerous cesspool of scary residents and low employee morale. Dr. Hew Len looked at patient files daily and did cleansing on himself with Ho’oponapona, an ancient Hawaiian clearing system. He never worked directly with the patients. Mysteriously, his patients got well and were released from the institution within three months to a year without him ever doing verbal therapy with them.

The Hawaiians believe we create our own reality (imagine that!) and therefore, whatever we see before us is our own creation. So, if a person is offensive to us, it is our creation, and our perception needs to be acknowledged, forgiven and healed by God/dess, Divine, Universe.

Does that include the war? Does that include murders? Dr. Hew Len says a resounding “Yes!” We are responsible for everything in our lives. That includes the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The minute he hears himself mentally or verbally complaining about any incident, condition or person, Dr. Hew Len says he immediately does Ho’oponapona to clear himself of those creations.( He actually says ‘I’m sorry’ instead of ‘I apologize’, and you may choose to do that.)

That’s pretty remarkable – a tool that could be valuable in our own lives.

How can we apply Ho’oponapona personally? The prayer at the beginning of this article may be offered to the Divine whenever we see something or someone whom we find offensive.

I have found Ho’oponapona to be very useful to release energy I am holding that doesn’t serve me and that may be creating more problems energetically. I have had several exciting successes using Ho’oponapona.  People who, in the past, I found challenging are now exhibiting friendly behavior. Dr. Hew Len assures us that, whether or not we are seeing results, we are giving a gift to the planet as we clear.

This is a fascinating way of choosing to live one’s life. I remind myself daily clear issues with Ho’oponapona. Give it a try. I think you’ll like it.

Ho’oponapona is a modified version of an ancient Hawaiian clearing method taught by Dr. Hew Len and explained by Joe Vitale in “Zero Limits – The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More”. The original version begins: “If I or my ancestors have offended you in any way, I’m sorry…

Do You Believe in Magic?

Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C.

Do you believe in magic? Magic is real and it is all around us. Sometimes we notice it and, often, we do not.

Many of us have lived many lifetimes in fear of being different. In former societies, being too different from the tribe could be fatal. Today, being normal, average and “real” is a huge limitation because it does not allow for the greatness and magic of you to show up.

Would you like to uncover your ability to have magic show up more often in your life with little effort? You are a creator. Your thoughts are powerful. With a little clarity and a few tools, you can create magic regularly.

First of all, you have to start acknowledging the times when you already do manifest magic. Stop now and spend a few minutes thinking about those times when there was synchronicity (perhaps you call it serendipity) in your life, and whatever you wanted showed up with no effort. Perhaps someone you were thinking of called. Did you take time to acknowledge that you did that? Well, do it now. Claim and own your capacity to manifest instantly.

Next, start asking questions: “What are the infinite possibilities of (fill in the blank) happening for me?” The Universe is truly on your side and wants to give you whatever you desire. Do not try to imagine how it will happen for you, because that limits the avenues the Universe can take to fulfill your desires.

Last, stop sabotaging yourself with doubts. When you doubt yourself, ask, “Am I buying into other people’s stuff? Who does this doubt, ridicule, belittlement belong to?” Just say ‘no’ to the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘I cannots’. Allow magic to happen. It is fun.

Invoking Your Natural Sensuality

By Jaqueline Lapa Sussman

The Greeks referred to mythical images as “gifts of the gods.” See what you receive when you visualize these ancient symbols.

Several years ago, while writing a book on sensuality, I was dining at a restaurant with friends. Our discussion focused on the mysteries of sexual attraction. Between courses, I excused myself and went to the restroom. The restaurant was full of people, and I noticed that no one looked at me as I walked by. This indifference struck me: When I was younger, men had always turned their heads when I passed, but after I turned 50, this occurred less frequently.

In the restroom, I continued to ponder the nature of sexual attraction. I meditated on an image of feminine sensuality from the chapter I was writing at the time. Still absorbed in the image as I walked back to my table, I was shocked to realize that every male head turned to look at me. I had not reapplied my lipstick, dabbed on perfume, or changed any aspect of my appearance, yet something had shifted.

I realized that this sudden attention was due to something emanating from within me. What happened in the restroom was not magic. As I was washing my hands, I closed my eyes and allowed an image of Aphrodite, goddess of love and sensuality, to form in my mind’s eye. I saw her as a beautiful and deeply sensual goddess standing naked before a mirror, admiring her breasts. I became aware that her breasts were reflective of beauty, power, nourishment, love, and the most beautiful and compelling feminine energies. Absorbed in the image, I began to identify with and embody her energy. In doing so, I experienced an unconscious shift.

My usual image of myself as a middle-aged woman with wrinkles vanished as I connected to something deeper – the inherent knowledge of essential feminine sensuality. Neither age nor failure to measure up to the current standards of beauty could diminish my awareness of an inner sensual fullness. Rooted in the very foundations of my own feminine nature, I had walked back to the table, powerful, loving, radiant.

The Gifts of the Gods

The image I saw was not a fantasy. It was a special type of visual experience that brought about an attitudinal, physiological, and energetic shift in me. What I was seeing was a mythic eidetic image. Eidetic images, recognized centuries ago, are bright visual images seen in the mind. (The world “eidetic” comes from the Greek word eidos, which means literally “to see” the beyond at a deep level.) Such images differ from other types of mental images in their unusual clarity and their ability to reproduce important life events and underlying mythic potentials with exact detail. Unlike memory, dreams, daydreams, and guided fantasy images, they are concrete imprints or mental records of the real events of our lives as well as our genetic nature. Eidetic images can be seen as still, as in a photo, or animated, as in a movie, and can be re-examined for detail and for new emotional perspectives.

Mythic images derive from traditions of the ancient world–Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece-and persist today in art and are used in religious traditions. For example, Aphrodite was a religious symbol in the ancient Greek religion, embodying the divine, sensual qualities of the feminine. Today she remains a favorite subject of artists and pop culture.

The ancient Greeks spoke of eidetic images as the “gifts of the gods.” Mythic eidetic images are specific forms that eidetic therapists and imagery researchers discovered tap into our reservoirs of information, mental and emotional strength, and grandeur-all powerful reminders of our forgotten wholeness. In my experience as a therapist, I have found that clients who meditate upon these images are often able to connect with the divine or godly qualities within themselves.

The Key Is in the Mind’s Eye

Modern eidetic imagery is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Akhter Ahsen, originator of eidetic image psychology and leading theorist in the scientific and clinical study of mental imagery. It is a fast-moving, positive therapy that quickly identifies problem areas and generates change by using precise tools that promote insight and growth.

In the 1950’s, the psychological literature described eidetic images as simple topographical visual images seen in the mind’s eye. In the 1960’s, Dr. Ahsen discovered the structural eidetic, a dynamic image in the psyche, which reveals that the images are composed of three parts: visual, somatic, and meaning. The visual part is the image seen in the mind’s eye; the somatic is the emotions or bodily sensations experience while seeing the image; and the meaning is the significance ascribed to each image.

Central to eidetic imagery theory is the concept of bio-latency. Bio-latency means that the complete genetic blueprint of our original nature is always available to us, encoded neurologically in our brains, and accessible through eidetic images. Simply stated, it means that our wholeness remains imprinted within, no matter how the history of our lives has diminished us.

Think of an acorn, with the potential to grow into a magnificent oak. Planted in poor soil or watered with acid rain, it becomes a stunted version of nature’s original design. Humans suffer the same fate, as the wholeness and natural gifts with which we were originally endowed are often fragmented by parental criticism, society’s repressions, and traumas. However, just as the oak tree, freshly supplied with clean water and nutrients, will send out new leaves, we also retain the potential to restore the magnificence of our original genetic blueprint

In my case, my self-image was colored by concerns about looking older and losing my attractiveness. Our culture does not offer many images of powerful as well as sensual women past the age of 50, and so I had reluctantly accepted that my days of vibrant sensuality were mostly behind me.

Yet seeing and fully embodying the image of Aphrodite restored the cellular genetic knowledge of my true sensual being. With this new vision came a corresponding emotional and physiological shift: I felt sensual, my posture straightened, I stood tall with shoulders back and chest open, and walked back to my table exuding a lush feminine energy. The “gifts of the gods,” in the form of Aphrodite, lived in me. No wonder the men turned and stared.

Eidetic Imagery Exercises

With your eyes closed or open, whichever feels more comfortable, allow the following images to be formed in you mind’s eye. Pay attention to the image that you see (do not worry if it is vague or vivid), to any sensations or feelings, and to any meanings that come to you. Notice how you feel as you approach seeing the images below. Are you scared and slightly held back from doing them? Or are you open and excited to see what emerges? Notice if your attitude is an indication as to how you may have been raised regarding being comfortable with your own sensuality.

House Image

This is the home you shared with your parents. If you lived in more than one house, the “home” that is pertinent is the one that comes to mind most strongly. In the home setting appear the principal family members who raised you. This image will bring to the surface the emotions that shaped your early life, and which have enhanced or diminished your genetic potential. Whether you have a positive or negative history with your parents, it can emerge in a subtle manner that can be helpful. Notice how you feel as you see the images of your mother and father.

1. Picture your parents in the house in which you were raised-the one that spontaneously appears in your mind’s eye.
2. Where do you see them?
3. What are they doing?
4. How do you feel when you see the image?
5. Does the house give you a feeling of home?
6. Are there any memories associated with this image?
7. What type or role model for a sensuous woman is your mother?
8. What type of role model for a sensuous man is your father?

Aphrodite Image (for women)

As you visualize this image, the literal physicality of your body-and the size, shape, or quality of your breasts-is not important. What is important is for you to connect to the deep feminine essence that is contained in your breasts. Relax, and let yourself go.

1. See Aphrodite, the goddess of love, in front of a mirror in which her sensuous breasts are reflected. Her breasts appear sensual and proportional in the mirror.
2. See her admiring the image of her own sensuous breasts.
3. These are visionary breasts reflected in the mirror. There is beauty, power, nourishment, everything.
4. The whole of nature with all its sensuousness is reflected in the mirror.
5. Mist-laden colors surround the reflection. There is a perfume flowing out from the mirror.
6. Experience the perfume flowing from the image. It creates an expansion in your consciousness.
7. The reflection in the mirror is an image of the feminine essence within you.

Poseidon Image (for men)

Poseidon embodies untamed male sexuality. He is strong yet open, and his pure and innocent passion makes him very appealing to women. At a primal level, men deeply long to immerse themselves in the feminine in the same way the Poseidon does as he moves towards the temple.

1. See the god Poseidon rising out of the sea. He is coming ashore. He is holding a trident in his hand, the symbol of power.
2. See his chest. It is strong and broad.
3. See that you have become Poseidon. As you move toward the shore, the waves push against your chest, but the force of your power surging forward pushes against the waves as you move.
4. Feel the waves push against your chest as you surge forward.
5. See that you have come onto the shore, dripping water.
6. See that your body is hot, and the cool air dries your body as you move. Feel the coolness against your body.
7. See that there is a temple on a hill. It is the temple of the virgin priestesses.
8. See a priestess in the temple. Sense the heat in your body as you walk toward the temple.
9. There is a warm fire in the temple and an intoxicating essence of perfume. Smell the perfume.
10. See that you are drawn to the nectar in the temple of the priestesses.
11. Experience the essence of your masculine sexuality flowing through your body.

Cosmic Dance of the Feminine and Masculine (for everyone)

There is an eternal play between masculine and feminine. Often, women express their sensuality as an oceanic experience which ebbs and flows around the male. Male consciousness has the character of solidity, like a rock amid a swirling ocean, which delights in the flow of feminine sensuality as it swirls around men.

1. See the ocean. There are waves washing up on the rocks.
2. See a phallic-shaped rock jutting out of the water.
3. See that the waters are warm and feminine, swirling around the rock, crashing, lapping against the rock, in an endless, eternal cosmic play.
4. See the waters playing against the rock. The rock is strong. See the waters swirl against the rock. The rock loves the playful waters. The waters love to play endlessly with the rock.
5. This is the essence of the masculine and feminine eternal dance.
6. Keep this image in mind when you spend time with another.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters

By Portia Nelson

I.

I walk down the street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I fall in

I am lost…I am helpless

It isn’t my fault.

It takes forever to find a way out.

II

I walk down the same street

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I pretend I don’t see it.

I fall in again.

I can’t believe I am in the same place,

but it isn’t my fault

It still takes a long time to get out.

III

I walk down the same street

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I see it is there.

I still fall in…it’s a habit

My eyes are open.

I know where I am.

It is my fault.

I get out immediately.

IV

I walk down the same street.

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.

I walk around it.

Who Is Sleeping in Your Parlor?

Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C.

Have you ever heard a ghost story told by someone as true? If you can believe statistics, a 2005 Gallop Poll stated that 75% of Americans believe in the paranormal, including ghosts, extra-sensory perception, clairvoyance, and reincarnation. The 2006 Baylor Survey of Religion reported that 37% believe in ghosts.

Ghosts are a mixed bag. If you have ever watched the outrageous TV show, “Ghost Whisperer”, you may have a really skewed, even frightened, vision of how disincarnate spirits interact on the material plane.

In my experience, people most often associate ghosts in connection with a particular house. For instance, someone moves into an old house and begins to notice that objects left in one place are showing up somewhere else. Perhaps somebody’s grandfather dies and he had a favorite rocker in his parlor. Later, the rocker rocks by itself with no one touching it whenever grandpa’s name is mentioned. There are many variations on this theme. When people learn that my skills include removing entities and ghosts from homes, offices, barns, people and animals, they often tell me another ghost story.

Although these unseen energies generally prefer to cling to live people (see my article “Who’s Been Hiding in Your Body?”), there are a variety of energies that can and do collect in buildings. Building entities may, in some way, make themselves known, much to the discomfort of the humans who enter those buildings. Most are relatively benign while others are quite the opposite.

In one case, a contractor called for help who was remodeling an old house for the new owners. Initially, she tried to placate workers when an angry entity vigorously commenced popping nails out of the newly installed gutters. She quit thinking it was so funny and requested relief after frightened workers refused to return to the work site. The antagonistic ghost, who believed the house to still be his, was resisting the intrusion of the renovation.

What are these unseen energies and why are they hanging around? Well, most often they are ghosts of people who have died and don’t want to leave the earth plane. Maintaining their own personalities after death, they often try to make themselves known to the current inhabitants of the building through a variety of ways.

Perhaps the deceased believed that she or he had done something unforgivable and was afraid of going to hell or being stuck in purgatory upon release of the physical body. S/he clings to the earth plane out of misguided self-protection.

Perhaps the ghost has a commitment to the house itself. I witnessed this in Las Lunes, New Mexico in a beautiful restaurant, formerly a home, where the ghost of a woman resides who loved and cared for the home through three generations. Her great pride in protecting the home for future generations keeps her there.

Perhaps someone has a loved one she or he has left behind who s/he believes needs care. For instance, an adoring grandfather who loved his grandson decides to stick around after death to mentor and protect the child.

Ghosts don’t necessarily have to be intrusive. Prior to my learning how to remove entities, I lived in a wonderful old home with an historic marker. I was unaware of any discarnate inhabitant there until I noticed that my cats would, from time to time, stare curiously at the doorway to the hall. Their heads would travel up and down as if they were looking someone over. After the cats did this for a couple of months, my shaman sister-in-law came to visit and casually remarked, “You know that you have a ghost over there, don’t you?” He was just quietly observing my comings and goings.

Are these entities malevolent? Sometimes, the energies are more sinister as with the prankster entities. They seem to have some consciousness, but not the same as ghosts. Pranksters can be quite annoying, whether attached to one’s body or one’s home. They enjoy causing discomfort to humans and animals by frightening or stressing them. It is commonly believed that pranksters feed off of the energy of fear. They are often mistaken for poltergeists.

Poltergeists are believed to be the energetic expression of adolescent girls who are sublimating their upset feelings. As such, poltergeists are not actually entities, but are energy manifested on the material plane through intense emotion. Poltergeists can toss furniture about the room, start fires, break things and otherwise terrorize the family. They tend to disappear after a short time.

Then, there are negative thought forms which may inculcate into the walls of a building. These can result from compulsive or obsessive thoughts repeated so often that they create a collective energy all their own. The thoughts manifest into an “energy blob”, so to speak, that gloms onto the walls. Or perhaps the couple living in that home has quarreled regularly over a long period of time. When people enter the building, they have a sense of dis-ease, gloominess, or static in the air even after the man or the couple has moved out.

Portals can be another concern in buildings. Portals are passageways through which non-physical beings pass from other dimensions and realities to our planet. (Beam me up, Scotty.) Some of these beings moving through are merely curious about inhabitants on the earth and some are mischievous troublemakers that have little regard for the emotional well-being of humans. Homes, offices or barns with portals have a non-stop parade of energies coming through.

Can anything else cause a problem with buildings besides entities? Often, buildings may sit on top of areas of geopathic stress such as ley lines and water veins. According to Joey Korn in his book “Dowsing: A Path to Enlightenment”, ley lines are lines or beams of energy that enter the Earth from the cosmos, turn at right angles at a certain depth under the surface, course the earth for a certain distance in straight lines, then turn upward at right angles to exit and return to the cosmos….” Ley lines may be either beneficial or cause a disturbance of energies. Then there are energies created by subterraneous streams crossing one another, creating a negative pulling effect directly above these streams on the earth’s plane and on the humans who may be living over them.

Occasionally, humans have the misfortune to build over an area considered sacred by those who have lived in the past, such as Native Americans. Those disincarnate souls have, to protect their sacred site from disrespectful others, put something akin to a curse on any trespassers on the land. Humans and pets living on the land can suffer a variety of misfortunes and illness.

Can ghosts show up in new or relatively new homes? Yes. Once, I was asked to come to a house less than two years old that had a lonely ghost who had followed the wife home when she returned from a conference held in an old monastery.

So how, you might ask, do I remove the problem makers? Often, folks will burn sage, camphor or dragon’s blood in a home or office to clear the negative energy. This sometimes works on heavy energy left over from unhappy people. It can also make you cough, particularly if you use dragon’s blood, a vile incense. Nasty entities generally require more than smoke to make them leave.

I use different techniques for different kinds of problems. Some situations call for verbal processes wherein I specify that entities are no longer welcome, and I encourage them to leave by letting them know that it is safe and necessary to go Home. Other situations may require procedures that include noise making and chanting as well as burning camphor. I also use a dowsing rod to check for ley lines and underground streams and, when necessary, give the area a treatment with copper or stones. I close with prayers and blessings of happiness and peace for the home or office.

Some places have only one or two problems; others have a plethora of energies that must be convinced it is time to go Home. Each building requires custom work specific to that place.

Although I have not covered all possibilities of energies that may spoil the tranquil feelings of a place, you now have a general concept of who might be “sleeping in your parlor”. If you feel inexplicably uncomfortable in your own home or office, or your animals are upset staying in their barn for unknown reasons, and you would feel ridiculous waving your arms and shouting, “Out, out, you rascals, you!”, I may have the answers you are looking for. Call me if I may be of service to you.

Are You a Universal Surrogate?

Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C.

What is a Universal Surrogate? It is a person who energetically takes on the pain and suffering of another to provide relief to the other. Surrogating is generally performed quite unconsciously, yet happens on a daily basis in homes, offices and wherever people are gathered around the world. Some folks reserve this behavior for family members. But a huge number of people are equal opportunity surrogates.

I believe that a Universal Surrogate willingly assumes this responsibility because s/he truly desires to relieve the suffering of others. However, from my personal experience, this is a harmful thing to do to oneself. Surrogating can make existence here a hell on earth for ourselves including unexplained illness, sudden headaches, stomach pains, heart palpitations and all manner of other physical problems, and can literally shorten our lives. Those who spend a great deal of time around sick people, such as health care providers, can suffer the most.

Then there are the emotional issues which we graciously absorb from others such as inexplicable depression, rage without a clear reason, deep sadness or loss of personal power. We may wonder if we need a therapist when, in actuality, the problem is not ours.

Many of us have unconsciously embraced the concept that, if we would take on others’ pain, they won’t have to experience it. We could save them from suffering. In theory, that is a compassionate concept. Yet, sometimes both the surrogate and the surrogated retain the pain. Realistically, people generally have pain for a reason, and if we remove it from them, they do not deal with whatever brought the problem. Pain, illness, and emotional upset never just happen in a vacuum.

Some believe that taking responsibility for the pain of others means we could live in oneness, which has a powerful appeal to those of us who are altruistic. Still, in my observation, many individuals just wind up getting stuck with other people’s yucky stuff.

So, you are probably wondering at this moment what the solution is for the issue surrogating pain that does not belong to you. The simplest way to deal with it is to ask yourself the question, preferably out loud, “Who does this belong to?” or “Is this (fill in the blank) mine?” This signifies to your beingness that the discomfort is not yours and that headache or anger or back pain will leave quickly. Of course, if it does not leave, then it most likely is your own issue to resolve.

A couple of years ago, I was sitting in a weekend seminar. During one of the breaks, when I stood up, excruciating pain shot through my knee. I was stunned, as I have never had any problems with either knee and had not recently bumped it. After rummaging through my mind as to why the heck it was hurting, I suddenly wondered if it was not my pain. I asked, “Who does this belong to?” three times in rapid succession and the pain disappeared like magic. While other incidences have sometimes taken a little longer to clear, it can and does happen just that fast.

This can be fun to play with. Try it for yourself and suggest others try it when they complain about some irritation or soreness. I believe that you will be amazed to realize how much you stuff the angst and pain of others! For the sake of your personal power, health and sanity, just say ‘No” to surrogating.

If surrogating is a serious issue for you, you might consider a phone clearing session from me. I can be reached at robin@passionatewoman.net or 512-444-9777.

Who Does This Belong To?

Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C.

Do you ever have unwanted thoughts pop into your head? Do you sometimes have thoughts that don’t match your belief system? Have you at times been overpowered by grief or anger or loneliness when those feelings don’t correspond to your circumstances? If so, you are probably taking on the thoughts, beliefs, feelings and judgments of others.

A huge amount of our thoughts do not belong to us. Up to the age of two, we have a clear psychic link with our parents. Later, we continue to pick up their thoughts about themselves, us, and the world in general. We have no way of knowing that the thoughts running through our heads are not ours. We take these thoughts as our own, and live the rest of our lives as though they are our creation. Scary thought, huh?

Would you like to give that up? Here is a simple solution: When you have an unwanted thought, you can ask the question, “Who does this belong to?” (Yes, that is not grammatically correct, but it works.) Often, that thought or impression will leave immediately. Sometimes, you may even get a clear understanding of its origin.

Repeating “Who does this belong to?” on a regular basis can clear a lot of mind chatter. For an even more exciting result, try asking that for three days every time you have a thought. It can literally change your life!

Who Is Hiding In Your Body?

 Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C.

Have you ever felt like you were acting or feeling strangely? Do you, after being sick or extremely angry or having been in a hospital or having drunk too much, become unreasonably cranky?

Possibly you have entities attached to you. These unseen stuck energies can create chaos in your life as mild and irritating as crankiness and extreme tiredness to outright rage and craziness.

Entities come in all varieties. They can be thought forms created by obsessing over some issues. They can be an individual entity, which is the ghost of a deceased person. They can be trickster entities, whose purpose is to cause you and others grief. They can be groups or clusters, mindless twits just there to confuse you. They can be “multiple housing” or equal strength partners, those beings who have sworn to be with you forever. (Soul’s interpretation of forever: throughout all lifetimes) The list goes on.

That we have entities creating havoc in our world is the bad news. Life can be enough of a challenge without them. The good news is that entities may be removed and the person or animal carrying them can be restored to wholeness so as to reclaim her or his life.

Robin Heart Shepperd, D.C. has been removing these unseen, often undetected, entities from people, pets, homes and offices for over twenty years. She will remove them for you in a private session. She can also teach you, through weekend classes, the skills of how to remove entities and curses from yourself and others. Shamans in “primitive” societies have done it for centuries and so can you.
